Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for a planned (non-emergency) heart bypass surgery that uses a heart-lung machine.
  • You will be given general anesthesia and a breathing tube during surgery.
  • Your heart’s pumping strength (LVEF) is 35% or higher.
  • You are not pregnant.
  • You have not had heart surgery before, and you are not having any other heart repair (like a valve) at the same time.
