Who can take part

  • You’re 18 years or older.
  • You had a spontaneous brain bleed in the upper part of the brain (not the brainstem) measuring at least 20 mL.
  • At the time of presentation, your stroke severity score (NIHSS) was 6 or higher and your consciousness score (GCS) was between 5 and 15.
  • You are getting minimally invasive brain-bleed evacuation using a procedure called sonolucent cranioplasty or hemicraniectomy with sonolucent cranioplasty.
  • The bleeding is not from a known secondary cause like a blood-vessel malformation, aneurysm, tumor, or bleed caused by a prior stroke.
  • Your blood clotting tests and medications at the time of the bleed must not be too abnormal (for example INR over 1.4, low platelets under 100, or certain blood thinners).
