Repeated brain stimulation for depression after spinal cord injury

This study tests a non-drug treatment called repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to reduce depression symptoms in people with depression after a spinal cord injury. You might be eligible if you have ongoing major depression and can safely receive magnetic pulses to the head.

Who can take part

  • You had a spinal cord injury in the neck (cervical) or upper back (thoracic) at least 6 months ago
  • Your spinal cord injury must be classified as AIS A, B, C, or D
  • You are age 18 to 60 and have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder
  • Your depression symptom score (Hamilton Depression Rating Scale-17) is above 18
  • You are not taking antidepressants, or your psych medicine dose has stayed the same for at least 4 weeks (6 weeks if you just started)
  • You can safely take part: no unsafe brain/medical implants, seizure history, or uncontrolled cognitive problems
