Who can take part

  • Be age 18 or older
  • Have hearing loss in both ears or have single-sided deafness
  • Already be approved by the LHSC Cochlear Implant Program for one cochlear implant
  • Speak and understand English as your native language (study tests use English)
  • Have no known cognitive (thinking/memory) problems and pass a brief memory/cognition screening (Mini Mental State Exam)
  • Be willing to do hearing/speech tests and come back for follow-up visits as scheduled
