Triage approach for certain strokes from blocked large brain arteries
Part of Brain & nervous system, Heart & circulation clinical trials.
This trial studies a way to sort and treat people with a specific type of acute ischemic stroke (caused by a blockage in a large brain artery). It may help doctors choose the best next steps—either a procedure or medication—faster and more appropriately.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- You were admitted to the hospital between Jan 1, 2018 and Jan 1, 2028
- You are 18 years or older
- Your stroke was confirmed on a CT or MRI scan
- Your scans show a blockage in a large brain artery (like ICA, MCA, ACA, basilar, vertebral, or PCA)
- You are being treated with either a procedure (endovascular therapy) or best medical treatment (medicines/supportive care)

This study looks at patients who had an ischemic stroke (a type of stroke caused by a blood clot) more than 24 hours ago and have a blockage in a large brain artery. It compares outcomes for those who get a procedure to remove the clot versus those who get only medical treatment.
This trial tests whether early treatment (using a catheter to open the blocked artery) can help people with a stroke caused by a blockage in the internal carotid artery. The goal is to improve recovery and reduce disability.
This trial tests if a procedure to reopen a blocked brain artery can help people who have had mini-strokes or strokes despite medical treatment. It is for people with a blockage in a specific brain artery that happened 2 weeks to 3 months ago.
This trial tests endovascular therapy (a procedure to remove a clot through a tube in an artery) versus medical management for people with a severe stroke due to a blockage in the back part of the brain (basilar artery) and a large area of brain damage. The goal is to see if the procedure improves outcomes compared to medication alone.
This trial tests a new way to treat strokes caused by blockages in medium-sized brain arteries within 24 hours of symptom onset. It uses brain imaging to select patients who might benefit from a procedure to remove the clot.
This trial is testing an interventional treatment for people who have severe narrowing (70-99%) in a major brain artery that has caused a stroke or mini-stroke in the past year. The goal is to see if this treatment can help prevent future strokes.
