Brain stimulation study for hard-to-control epilepsy

This trial tests whether noninvasive brain stimulation (using gentle electrical current through the scalp) can reduce seizures in people with epilepsy that has not responded to at least two anti-seizure medicines. If you qualify, you’d also be asked to keep track of seizures in a diary during the study.

Who can take part

  • You have a diagnosis of epilepsy: generalized onset, focal epilepsy, or a sleep-related epileptic condition
  • You have frequent seizures (about at least 2 per month) or an EEG marker called spike-wave index of 50% or higher
  • Your seizures have not improved after trying at least two anti-seizure medicines
  • You can keep your anti-seizure medicine steady during the study (rescue medicine is allowed for breakthrough seizures)
  • You can understand consent and keep seizure records in English
  • You do not have scalp skin problems that would interfere with electrodes, and you are not allergic to silver
