Combination T4/T3 vs T4 alone for autoimmune hypothyroid fatigue

This trial compares adding T3 (plus T4) versus taking only T4 to see if it improves severe ongoing tiredness in people with autoimmune hypothyroidism. You would stay on your thyroid medicine plan during the study and be monitored with blood tests and health checks.

Who can take part

  • You’re 18 or older with primary hypothyroidism that is overt or mild/subclinical
  • You’ve been taking T4 (levothyroxine) alone for at least 6 months
  • Your current T4 dose is within the study range and is at least 1.2 micrograms per kilogram per day
  • Your TSH blood test has been within the lab’s normal range for at least 3 months
  • You have severe tiredness that strongly affects daily life for at least 6 months (you choose the description, not the doctor)
  • You can read and speak Dutch
