Compare two antibiotic routes for infected broken bones after surgery

This Phase 3 trial tests whether giving antibiotics by mouth (PO) works as well as giving antibiotics through a vein (IV) for an infected fracture that has not healed after prior surgery. It may help you understand which approach is safer and more effective for getting the bone to heal.

Who can take part

  • You have an infected fracture that has not healed after prior fixation (metal/surgery), and it needs further fixation to stay in place or be replaced until the bone heals
  • Your treating team has diagnosed the fracture infection using medical infection guidelines (and it can still be infection even if cultures are negative)
  • You must be able to take a planned antibiotic course for at least 6 weeks
  • Your doctor does not expect you to need amputation soon because of this injury
  • You can return for frequent checkups, including being available for at least 12 months after antibiotic treatment
  • You have no recent other experimental treatments in the month before infection treatment, and no major barriers to getting general anesthesia if needed
