Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are scheduled for a total ankle replacement surgery
  • You can give your own permission to join the study
  • You are not allergic to vancomycin, cefepime, or cefazolin (Ancef)
  • Your diabetes is well-controlled (A1C below 7.5) or you do not have diabetes
  • You do not have a weakened immune system (from HIV, hepatitis C, kidney failure, dialysis, transplant, or recent cancer treatment)
