Who can take part

  • You are an adult (about 18 to 85 for stroke, 18 to 90 for phantom limb pain).
  • If you have stroke: it was a single stroke on one side of the brain, and it was confirmed by CT or MRI.
  • If you have stroke: the stroke happened at least 4 months ago, and you have documented upper-limb weakness or loss of feeling on one side.
  • If you have phantom limb pain: you had an arm/upper-limb amputation at least 2 months ago, and phantom pain has been stable for at least 2 months.
  • You must be able to safely receive TMS (a type of magnetic brain stimulation) based on medical contraindications.
  • You likely do not have other major neurological conditions or significant hand/arm problems (like Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, ALS, or carpal tunnel) that would interfere.
