Who can take part
- Be an adult age 18 or older and be in an intensive care unit (ICU)
- Have a breathing tube in your mouth or nose, or expect to get one within 48 hours
- Be able to give consent (or have your legal decision-maker consent if you can’t) before any study steps
- You should not have had an organ transplant or a bone marrow transplant
- You should not be at high risk of bleeding (for example, very high INR or PTT on labs)
