Who can take part

  • You are currently on a breathing tube (intubated) and likely will be for more than 48 hours.
  • You have a high risk of early lung infection due to conditions like severe trauma, brain injury, stroke, or other causes of unconsciousness.
  • You or your legal representative must agree to participate by signing a consent form.
  • You cannot join if you are expected to have a poor short-term outcome within 7 days.
  • You cannot join if you already need strong antibiotics for a suspected lung infection or other infection.
  • You cannot join if you have active bleeding from the lungs, unstable ribs, or an untreated collapsed lung.
