Who can take part
- Be age 18 or older
- Have acute leukemia (AML, ALL, or a similar type) and are getting induction/re-induction/salvage chemo, or you’re having allogeneic stem cell transplant with conditioning chemo and/or radiation
- Have febrile neutropenia: a fever meeting specific thresholds plus very low neutrophils (ANC) on blood tests
- At the start, there is no confirmed infection and no clear infection source found on exam and tests (including blood culture results and possibly a chest scan)
- After starting antibiotics, you must have had at least 72 hours of antibiotics, be fever-free for at least 24 hours, and still have low neutrophils (ANC ≤ 0.5x109/L)
