Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for a first-time, planned open-chest heart bypass (CABG) using a sternum incision
  • Your heart blockage pattern involves multiple vessels, such as three-vessel disease or left main plus right coronary disease
  • Your heart pumping function is not severely reduced (left ventricular ejection fraction above 35%)
  • You do not need additional heart surgeries at the same time (like valve repair/replacement or surgery for an arrhythmia)
  • You do not have severe kidney problems (creatinine 200 micromol/L or less)
