Minimally invasive procedure to correct bunion alignment

This pilot study tests a minimally invasive (through small skin openings) correction to improve the alignment of a bunion (hallux valgus). It may help people who are already being advised to have bunion surgery, but who fit specific bone alignment measurements and safety criteria.

Who can take part

  • You have adult hallux valgus (a bunion) and you’ve been told you need corrective surgery
  • Your x-ray measurements fall within: hallux valgus angle 20° to 40°
  • Your x-ray measurements fall within: intermetatarsal angle 10° to 20°
  • You do not have instability in your big toe joint (first metatarsophalangeal joint)
  • You do not have severe deformities or other important problems in your foot or lower leg
  • You do not need additional surgery at the same time and you don’t have major nerve/blood-flow problems or illnesses that would slow bone healing
