Who can take part

  • You speak English well enough to understand study instructions and questionnaires
  • You have a current major depressive episode confirmed by a structured diagnostic interview (SCID-5)
  • Your depression started before age 30, and it is either long-lasting (current episode over 2 years) or you’ve had 2+ major depressive episodes
  • Your depression symptoms are currently fairly severe (QIDS score over 14) at the start and the week before starting sertraline
  • You are able and willing to have MRI and EEG testing
  • You are not pregnant, not trying to become pregnant, and not breastfeeding
