Testing how blood sugar control links to a hormone in type 2 diabetes

This study looks at whether better blood sugar control changes levels of a hormone called irisin in people with type 2 diabetes and obesity, including those with or without age-related muscle loss (sarcopenia). Who can take part

  • You have type 2 diabetes diagnosed less than 10 years ago
  • You are over 60 years old and have a BMI over 30 (obesity)
  • Your kidney function test (eGFR) is above 30
  • You have been on the same diabetes medicines for at least 3 months
  • You do NOT use insulin or diabetes medicines that trigger insulin release (secretagogues)
