Who can take part
- You are 18 or older and had a stroke caused by a blockage in a medium artery (not the largest ones)
- You cannot get the standard clot-busting medicine (tPA) or it didn't work for you
- Your stroke symptoms are disabling (you have trouble speaking, moving your arm or leg, etc.)
- The clot must be in a specific type of artery (like M2, M3, A1–A3, or P1–P3 segments) and the artery is between 1.5 and 2.5 mm wide
- You weren't disabled before the stroke (you could do daily activities without help)
- Brain scans show that the area of brain at risk is larger than the already damaged area, and the core damage is less than 50 cc
- You can be treated within 12 hours from when you were last seen well
