Who can take part

  • You have lung cancer or 1-2 lung tumors that have spread from another cancer, and you are going to get high-dose radiation to cure or control it.
  • You have a type of lung scarring called fibrotic interstitial lung disease (ILD), confirmed by a lung specialist.
  • You are age 18 or older, and your life expectancy is more than 6 months.
  • You are not taking steroids (like prednisone) by mouth or IV, and you haven't had radiation to the lungs before.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and you can use effective birth control if needed.
  • You are not taking N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) now or recently, and you have no allergies or conditions that would make dexamethasone or NAC unsafe for you.
