Sprint interval training during spinal cord injury rehab

This study tests whether a program of short, intense arm exercise (sprint interval training) is safe and doable for people with spinal cord injury who are in the hospital for rehab. If you are eligible, you would do the exercise sessions during your stay.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 to 65 years old.
  • You have a spinal cord injury below the second vertebra in your neck (C2).
  • Your injury is classified as AIS A, B, or C (meaning it's not the mildest type).
  • You are currently getting acute inpatient rehabilitation at Harborview Medical Center for your spinal cord injury.
  • You are able to use an arm bike (arm ergometer) for exercise.
  • You do not have poorly controlled diabetes, unstable heart disease, a shoulder injury, or other conditions that would make exercise unsafe.
