Who can take part

  • You have acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in first complete remission, or you have myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) with a certain amount of abnormal cells in the bone marrow (between 5% and 20%) at the time of transplant.
  • You must have a stem cell donor who is either a matched sibling, a matched unrelated donor, or a half-matched related donor.
  • No active central nervous system disease or spread of cancer outside the blood and bone marrow.
  • No active infection that is not controlled, and no significant liver, kidney, lung, or heart problems.
  • No uncontrolled mental health condition, and must not be HIV-positive.
