Who can take part

  • You need to live near the study center or be able to travel there for visits.
  • You must be 60-70 years old and expected to live at least 3 more years, or be younger than 60 with a reason you can't take blood thinners.
  • The surgery must be your first heart valve surgery, and only on your aortic valve (no other heart or aorta procedures at the same time).
  • Your surgery must be planned, not an emergency.
  • You cannot have active heart valve infection, severe lung problems, or certain health conditions like cancer that would shorten your life.
  • You should not have severe symptoms like shortness of breath at rest or a very weak heart pump.
