Steroid treatment for focal brain artery inflammation in children

This trial tests whether short-term steroids improve recovery for children who recently had a stroke or mini-stroke caused by inflammation of a brain artery. If you qualify, you would receive steroids and follow-up imaging to see if it helps prevent further damage.

Who can take part

  • You are between 1 and 18 years old (up to your 19th birthday).
  • You had a stroke or mini-stroke in the last 4 days (96 hours).
  • Your MRI shows swelling or narrowing in one brain artery consistent with FCA.
  • You can return for a follow-up MRI about 1 month later.
  • You haven't had a prior stroke or another known cause of stroke (except FCA).
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and don't have conditions that prevent steroid use.
