Who can take part
- You are between 18 and 70 years old.
- You have a small thyroid nodule (4 cm or less) that is papillary thyroid cancer and you are planning to have a lobectomy (removing half of the thyroid).
- Cancer has not spread to lymph nodes (no clinical signs, and if any tiny spots found, no more than 5 and each smaller than 0.2 cm).
- You have no serious organ or blood problems, no other head or neck cancers, no prior neck radiation, and no deep neck surgery (except for skin lumps).
- You can commit to follow-up care and thyroid hormone therapy after surgery.
