Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with polycythemia vera (PV) and have the JAK2 V617F mutation.
  • You are 60 years or older, or have had a blood clot in the past 3 years.
  • You need treatment because your red blood cell count is high (hematocrit 45% or higher), or you have had a phlebotomy in the last 3 months, or your white blood cell or platelet count is high.
  • Your hematocrit must be below 45% at the start of the study.
  • You have not been treated with hydroxyurea before, or if you have, you did not have resistance or intolerance to it.
  • You do not have serious heart problems, abnormal heart rhythms, or certain other medical conditions listed in the trial.
