Who can take part

  • You are older than 18 years.
  • You are scheduled for minimally invasive (laparoscopic or robot-assisted) abdominal surgery.
  • You have a moderate or high risk of lung complications based on a simple breathing risk score (ARISCAT score of 26 or more).
  • Alternatively, if you are over 40, your surgery will last more than 2 hours, and you will have a special blood pressure monitor placed in your artery, you may also qualify.
  • You have not had any lung surgery in the past.
  • You do not have severe chronic lung disease requiring oxygen, breathing support, or frequent steroid treatments.
