Brain stimulation for muscle tightness in children with cerebral palsy

This trial tests a non-invasive brain stimulation technique called repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to see if it can reduce muscle tightness (spasticity) in the arm of children with cerebral palsy or hemiplegia caused by a brain injury. It is a randomized controlled trial, meaning some children will receive the active treatment and others a placebo, to find out if it really helps.

Who can take part

  • You are between 7 and 18 years old.
  • You have been diagnosed with cerebral palsy that affects one side of the body (hemiplegia).
  • Your arm or hand has some muscle tightness (at least a mild amount).
  • You have an IQ of 50 or higher (mild or no intellectual disability).
  • You have not had Botox injections in your arm in the last 6 months, and no arm cast in the last 6 months.
