This trial tests whether a single infusion of stem cells from donated umbilical cord tissue can help calm inflammation in the brain after severe traumatic brain injury. It is for patients aged 18–50 who need brain pressure monitoring and are not responding to verbal commands 5 days after sedation is stopped.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 50 years old.
  • You have had a severe traumatic brain injury with a Glasgow Coma Scale score below 12 in the first 48 hours.
  • A brain scan shows traumatic injury and you need a monitor to measure pressure inside your skull.
  • You are not able to follow commands 5 days after stopping sedation, and your care team has not decided to stop active treatments within 10 days after sedation is stopped.
  • You do not have other major injuries (score below 2 on a body injury scale).
  • You do not have any metal implants or devices that would prevent you from having an MRI or PET-MRI scan.
