This trial tests a type of blood pressure medicine (an angiotensin-II receptor blocker) to see if it can help prevent changes in the heart's structure. It is for people who have had surgery for a coarctation of the aorta and now have mild to moderate high blood pressure.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have had surgery to repair a coarctation of the aorta (a narrowing of the main artery from the heart).
  • You have mild to moderate high blood pressure (systolic reading between 100 and 139 mm Hg).
  • You are not currently taking a beta blocker (a type of heart-slowing blood pressure medicine).
  • You have not taken any blood pressure medications in the past year.
  • You do not have severe heart valve disease, coronary artery disease, low kidney function, or high potassium levels.
