Colchicine for heart inflammation with arrhythmias

CardiomyopathiesMyocarditisInflammatory CardiomyopathyHeart FailureVentricular Arrythmia

Treatments studied

Part of Heart & circulation clinical trials.

This trial tests whether the drug colchicine can help people with heart muscle inflammation (myocarditis) that also causes abnormal heart rhythms, a weak heart pump, or high stress markers. Colchicine is an anti-inflammatory medicine that might reduce heart damage and improve symptoms.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have inflammation in your heart muscle, confirmed by a heart MRI or PET scan within the last 3 months.
  • You have had symptoms for more than 1 month, including at least one of: very frequent extra heartbeats (3,000+ per day), short runs of fast heartbeats, or sustained fast heartbeats; a weaker heart pump (LVEF less than 50% on echo or less than 60% on MRI); or high levels of heart stress markers (NT-proBNP over 1,000 or BNP over 200).
  • You are not currently taking colchicine or other immune-suppressing drugs, and you do not have severe kidney or liver disease.

Colchicine for heart failure with preserved pump function and inflammation

This trial tests if colchicine, an anti-inflammatory medicine, can help people with a type of heart failure where the heart pumps well but is stiff and inflamed. You may join if your heart failure recently worsened and you have signs of inflammation in your blood.

NCT06286423Recruiting· Phase 4
Colchicine for acute heart failure with low pumping strength

This trial tests if the anti-inflammatory drug colchicine can help people hospitalized with acute heart failure and a weak heart pump. It may benefit those with elevated inflammation markers.

NCT06130059Recruiting· Phase 2
Low-dose colchicine for heart failure with inflammation

This trial tests whether a low-dose colchicine (LoDoCo) can help people with heart failure and inflammation feel better and exercise more. It is for adults 50 and older with HFpEF who have signs of inflammation in their blood.

NCT06081049Recruiting· Phase 2
Colchicine for heart failure with preserved pumping function

This trial is testing whether colchicine, a medication used for gout, can help people with a specific type of heart failure where the heart pumps normally but is stiff. If you have heart failure with preserved pumping and certain signs of inflammation, this study might be a good fit.

Colchicine vs placebo for acute myocarditis

This trial tests whether colchicine (a medicine that reduces inflammation) improves outcomes in people with acute myocarditis soon after symptoms start. Half of participants get colchicine and half get a placebo to see which works better.

Colchicine for people with certain irregular heartbeats

This trial tests whether colchicine can help people with paroxysmal or persistent atrial fibrillation (AF), a type of irregular heartbeat, after a successful cardioversion. It may help reduce future AF problems, depending on the results.
