Who can take part
- Your hypopharyngeal cancer is stage T2 or T3 and is in the piriform sinus or back wall of the hypopharynx.
- The vocal cord on the opposite side of your tumor still moves well.
- You are able to do daily activities with little to no help (ECOG 0 or 1).
- You have not had radiation therapy to your head or neck before.
- You do not have severe lung disease (FEV1/FVC above 50%) or heart problems that make anesthesia risky.
- The cancer has not spread to distant parts of your body or into the cricoid cartilage, carotid artery, or prevertebral area.
