Who can take part
- You can understand the study and sign written consent
- You are between 18 and 75 years old
- Your diagnosis is hypopharyngeal squamous-cell cancer confirmed by tests or scans, and you have a neck lymph node bigger than 2 cm
- Your health is strong enough for either surgery or radiation (including no major heart/lung/kidney/liver disease that would make treatment unsafe)
- You have not had radiation or cancer surgery before (except a biopsy), and you have not had chemotherapy or immunotherapy yet
- You are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding
