Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have had Parkinson's for at least 4 years.
  • You are scheduled for awake DBS surgery as part of your normal care, targeting the subthalamic nucleus or globus pallidus interna.
  • Your Parkinson's symptoms (like tremor, stiffness, or slowness) improve by at least 30% with medication, unless you cannot take medication due to side effects.
  • You are generally healthy enough for surgery and willing to cooperate during the awake procedure.
  • You do not have other serious brain conditions, a history of seizures, or an implanted device like a pacemaker.
