Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older
  • You have Parkinson's disease (with tremor, stiffness, or slow movement)
  • You are scheduled for deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery to the subthalamic nucleus
  • Your symptoms improve noticeably when you take L-dopa (your 'on' times)
  • You can stay awake and cooperate during a 30-minute part of the surgery
  • You are not currently taking blood thinners (like warfarin or clopidogrel)
  • You do not have significant memory or thinking problems (MoCA score 24 or higher)
