Who can take part

  • You are 16 years old or older.
  • You have a recent brain or spinal cord injury that needs a breathing machine.
  • Your lungs are healthy (normal chest x-ray and good oxygen levels).
  • You do not have a collapsed lung, chest tube, or chronic lung disease.
  • Your blood pressure is stable (not too low) and you are not on very high doses of heart-support medicines.
  • You are not pregnant.
