This trial studies how care is given to people who have a traumatic injury to the spine and need a breathing machine. It may help improve treatment and recovery for people who are ventilated after injury, including those with or without spinal cord damage.

Who can take part

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Have a traumatic injury to the spine (with or without spinal cord injury)
  • Currently need a breathing machine through an endotracheal tube or tracheostomy
  • Be able to provide consent yourself, or have a substitute decision-maker who can
  • Not be expected to stop the study treatment within 24 hours of screening
