Clot-busting therapy for stroke patients on blood thinners

This study tests whether giving a clot-busting medicine through an IV can help people who have had a stroke while taking a common blood thinner (apixaban, dabigatran, edoxaban, or rivaroxaban). It may be an option if your last dose of the blood thinner was 12 to 48 hours before the stroke and you arrive at the hospital within 4.5 hours of symptoms starting.

Who can take part

  • You had a stroke within the last 4.5 hours
  • You took one of these blood thinners (apixaban, dabigatran, edoxaban, or rivaroxaban) 12 to 48 hours before the stroke
  • Your stroke is moderate to severe (NIHSS score of 3 or more)
  • You are 18 or older
  • A CT scan shows no bleeding in the brain and no major early damage
  • You do not have severe kidney disease (eGFR > 30)
  • You do not have a bleeding disorder or very low platelets
