Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 80 years old.
  • You have a fresh spinal cord injury in the neck (C2–C8) or upper back (T1–T12) that is not a stab or gunshot wound.
  • Your injury happened within the last 48 hours and you can have surgery through the back of your spine.
  • At the time you arrive at the hospital, you have no movement or feeling below the injury level (ASIA A or B).
  • You do not have another life-threatening injury, active infection, or condition that would keep you from completing follow-up visits.
