Potassium management for kidney health

This study tests if careful potassium management can help people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) safely take higher doses of blood pressure medicines called ACE inhibitors or ARBs, which are known to protect the kidneys. You may be eligible if you have moderate to advanced CKD and are already on a moderate dose of one of these medications.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have moderate to advanced chronic kidney disease (stage 3b or 4).
  • You have protein in your urine or a urine test showing kidney damage.
  • Your blood pressure is above 130 or you take medication for high blood pressure.
  • Your potassium level is between 4.0 and 5.0 mmol/L.
  • You are currently taking an ACE inhibitor or ARB at a moderate dose.
