Sleep apnea testing and treatment for atrial fibrillation patients
Part of Brain & nervous system, Heart & circulation, Lungs & breathing clinical trials.
This study tests a new way to check and treat sleep apnea in people with atrial fibrillation (AF). If you have AF and symptoms, you may be able to join and get sleep tracking and treatment that could help both your heart and sleep.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- You have atrial fibrillation (AF) that comes and goes or stays for a while, confirmed by an ECG.
- You have symptoms from your AF, like racing heart, shortness of breath, or tiredness.
- You are 18 years or older.
- You own a smartphone that can run Fitbit and FibriCheck apps (recent iPhone or Android).
- You have not had a sleep study before or used a CPAP/BiPAP/ASV machine for sleep apnea.
- You have no memory or thinking problems, speak Dutch, and do not rely on a pacemaker.

This trial looks at how obstructive sleep apnea (OSA, a breathing problem during sleep) relates to heart outcomes in people with atrial fibrillation (AF). It may help doctors better predict risk and choose safer care for people who are high cardiovascular risk.
This trial tests whether starting CPAP therapy (a breathing mask used during sleep) after a heart procedure called atrial fibrillation ablation can help people with both sleep apnea and atrial fibrillation. It might lower the chance of the heart rhythm problem coming back.
This pilot study looks at whether obstructive sleep apnea leads to heart scarring (called atrial fibrosis), especially in people with and without an irregular heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation). It may help researchers understand who is at higher risk and why, using sleep testing and heart imaging.
This study tests whether using a Fitbit activity tracker and a supportive exercise program helps people with AFib become more active. It may help you feel better and manage your heart rhythm.
This study looks at early changes in the heart related to atrial fibrillation (AF) using health data and biomarkers. It aims to find better ways to predict or understand AF, especially around procedures like ablation or cardioversion.
This study tests a smartphone app called SleepWell24 to help people with newly diagnosed sleep apnea stick with their CPAP therapy and improve their quality of life.
