Who can take part
- You have at least one lower or upper molar (tooth #6 or #7) with a moderate gum defect between its roots.
- The defect still bleeds when touched and has a pocket depth of 6 mm or more after initial gum treatment.
- The opening of the furcation (between the roots) is still covered by gum tissue.
- Your overall mouth has plaque on no more than 25% of teeth.
- You have no deep defects on more than one side of that tooth, no major bone loss on other root surfaces, no ‘tunnel’ from the gum to the bone tip, and you have not taken antibiotics in the last 6 months.
- You have no uncontrolled diabetes or other conditions that interfere with surgery.
