Who can take part

  • You must have a diagnosis of Smooth Muscle Dysfunction Syndrome (SMDS) with a specific change in the ACTA2 gene that affects arginine 179.
  • You cannot have had surgery to replace a damaged part of your aorta with an artificial graft.
  • You must not be allergic to niacin (vitamin B3) or nicotinamide riboside (a form of vitamin B3).
  • You must not have taken niacin or nicotinamide riboside supplements in the last 8 weeks.
  • You cannot be enrolled in any other research trial that tests a different treatment or intervention.
