Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older and in the intensive care unit (ICU).
- You have a suspected lung infection, like pneumonia.
- You have been on a breathing machine (ventilator) for less than 24 hours.
- Your blood test shows a certain level of a protein called soluble thrombomodulin (sTM) at 4 or higher.
- You are not pregnant, do not have severe heart failure, and are not in septic shock with very high sTM levels.
