Handgrip exercise frequency and blood pressure in hypertension

This study tests whether doing handgrip exercises (squeezing a device in your hand) can help lower blood pressure. You can join if your blood pressure is on the higher side, you've been on the same medications (if any) for at least 4 months, and you're generally healthy enough to exercise.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 65 years old.
  • You have high blood pressure (130 or higher) but not extremely high (under 180).
  • You are not taking blood pressure medicine, or you've been on the same dose for at least 4 months.
  • You haven't changed your diet or exercise habits in the last 4 months.
  • You do not have serious heart, kidney, or blood vessel disease, or type 1 diabetes.
  • You can safely do a handgrip exercise (no severe arthritis or other physical limitations).
