Who can take part

  • You must be between 18 and 70 years old.
  • You must be able to understand English or Spanish.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) should be between 18-25 (if you are insulin sensitive) or 30-45 (if you are insulin resistant).
  • If you are in the insulin-sensitive group, you must have normal blood sugar and insulin levels. If you are in the insulin-resistant group, you must have high insulin and signs of prediabetes.
  • You cannot have diabetes, certain heart or liver problems, or a history of some weight-loss surgeries.
  • You must not be pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking certain medications (like most diabetes drugs or cholesterol drugs).
