Headset therapy vs patching for lazy eye in children

This study tests a new way to treat lazy eye (amblyopia) in 4 to 7 year olds using special shows watched through a headset (dichoptic therapy). It compares this to the standard treatment of wearing a patch over the stronger eye. The goal is to see if the headset therapy works as well or better than patching.

Who can take part

  • Your child must be 4 to 7 years old.
  • Your child has amblyopia (lazy eye) caused by crossed eyes (strabismus), a big difference in glasses prescription between eyes (anisometropia), or both.
  • Your child must have worn glasses or contact lenses that correct their vision for at least 18 weeks, or until their vision stopped improving (stayed the same on two vision tests 9 weeks apart).
  • Your child has had less than 2 weeks total of any prior dichoptic (special video) treatment and can stop any other treatments like atropine drops for 2 weeks before starting.
  • Your child is willing to wear a headset to watch shows for 1 hour a day, 6 days a week, or wear a patch for 2 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 26 weeks.
  • Your child's eyes can't be misaligned by more than 5 prism diopters, and they must not have had surgery on their eyes, severe skin reactions to patches, or other serious eye problems.
