Who can take part

  • Must have severe tracheobronchomalacia (collapsing airway) with less than 50% open space in the windpipe or main bronchi.
  • Must be unable to come off a breathing machine, need a tracheostomy, or be a candidate for one.
  • Must be between 1 week and 4 years old.
  • Must have a life expectancy of at least 2 years (not counting this airway problem).
  • Must have a parent or guardian who can consent and a doctor willing to provide follow-up for 2 years.
  • Must not have certain other lung, heart, or structural problems listed in the trial.
