Who can take part
- You are scheduled for a carotid endarterectomy (surgery to open a blocked neck artery).
- You are between 18 and 80 years old.
- Your overall health is classified as ASA II (mild disease) or ASA III (serious but stable).
- You do not have moderate or severe memory or thinking problems.
- You have not taken mood- or mental-health medications in the past year.
- You have not had brain surgery before and you can speak and understand normally.
