  • You have had type 2 diabetes for at least 3 years and are using medication (including insulin) to control it.
  • You are between 35 and 55 years old.
  • You have a body mass index (BMI) of 27 or higher — this is a measure of weight relative to height, and the cutoff is the same for Asian ethnicity.
  • You are currently taking medication for high blood pressure.
  • You are able to lose 15-20% of your body weight and stick with the program for 24 weeks.
