Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 65 years old.
  • You are scheduled for a planned (elective) VATS surgery (a type of lung surgery done through small cuts).
  • You do not have a bleeding disorder, liver or kidney failure, or uncontrolled diabetes or high blood pressure.
  • You are not taking antidepressants or strong painkillers (opioids) for chronic pain, and you do not have nerve pain.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and you have no allergy to numbing medicine or infection at the injection site.
